Philippines keen on opening honorary consulate in Kish

TEHRAN, Feb. 01 (MNA) – Philippines deputy FM Laura del Rosario expressed her country’s interest in opening an honorary consulate on Kish Island as well as Iran-Philippines Joint Economic Commission in near future.

Philippines Department of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary For International Economic Relations Laura del Rosario in a Sunday meeting with Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Minister Mahmoud Vaezi in Tehran said “given the presence of Philippian citizens on Kish Island, we are keen on opening an honorary consulate there.”

She deemed the easing of visas issuance an important factor for developing cooperation on trade and tourism between the two countries, adding “we will also boost our pharmaceutical cooperation with Iran seeing how the country has made remarkable progress in the field.”

Iran is one of the six countries with which the Philippines has a joint commission at a ministerial level, she said.

She expressed hope that the formation of economic and infrastructure working groups would further expedite the holding of Iran-Philippines Joint Economic Commission.

The Iranian ICT minister for his part maintained that cooperation in various areas including trade, commercial, oil, shipping, banking, tourism and visa issuance can help develop the two countries’ relations once the Joint Economic Commission is held.

“It is necessary to gain a better understanding of the two sides’ capabilities in scientific and technological areas, particularly IT and ICT,” said Vaezi, while calling for the two countries’ support for the private sector.

The 6th Iran-Philippines Joint Consular Commission was held in Tehran on January 30 and 31 attended by Undersecretary For Civilian Security And Consular Concerns Rafael Seguis and his eight-member board composed of representatives of different sectors and Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Hassan Ghashghavi.
